Gyoza are Japanese dumplings or pot stickers. They are usually deep fried but they can also be baked or steamed. The dough is filled with vegetables such as cabbage, carrots, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, etc.
You can cook them in an oven, microwave or air fryer. In this article, I show you how to cook them in an air fryer using my recipe.
What is Gyoza?
Pot stickers are made with thick wrappers and larger sizes while gyoza are made with thin wrappers and smaller sizes, according to Food Network. Both types of dumplings are filled with meat, vegetables, and seasonings. They’re often served with dipping sauce.
Gyoza are Chinese dumplings that originated in Japan. They’re usually steamed or boiled, but some restaurants deep fry them. Dumpling shops sell both pot stickers and gyoza.
Can I Cook Gyoza From Frozen?
Air Fryers are one of the best kitchen appliances around. They make quick work out of frying food like chicken nuggets, french fries, and even pizza dough. But there’s something about making gyoza that just doesn’t translate well into an air fryer.
You end up having to cook the dumplings twice – once in boiling water and again in the air fryer – which takes longer than simply thawing them in the fridge.
But now, thanks to the latest update to the Cuisinart® CF-V10N, you don’t have to worry about cooking your gyoza twice anymore. Now, you can use the air fryer to quickly thaw frozen gyoza without worrying about overcooking them.
The new model comes with an additional clear cooking window, which allows you to easily monitor the progress of your food while it cooks. And because the air fryer heats up fast, you won’t have to wait long for the food to finish cooking.
In fact, you’ll be able to tell whether the food is done by looking at the window. If the window turns yellow, it’s ready to eat.
And since the air fryer uses hot air rather than heat, you won’t have the same problem with cold food that you do with traditional ovens. So, no matter how cold your food is, you can still enjoy delicious gyoza every single time.
How to Make Air Fryer Gyoza
Gyoza is Japanese dumpling stuffed with meat or vegetables. They are usually pan-fried or steamed. This recipe uses an air fryer to cook the gyoza. If you don’t have an air fryer, you can use a regular frying pan.
Ingredients
- 1 package (about 20) frozen gyoza
- 3/4 cup flour
- 2 eggs
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
Step-1: Thaw the gyoza in the refrigerator overnight.
Step-2: Mix together the flour and salt. Add the eggs and mix until smooth.
Step-3: Dip each piece of gyoza in the egg mixture and then coat in the flour mixture.
Step-4: Heat the oil in the air fryer on medium-high heat. Place the coated pieces of gyoza in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
Step-5: Cook for 6 minutes per side or until golden brown. Remove from the air fryer and serve immediately.
Cooking Tips
If you want to add more flavor to your gyoza, try adding soy sauce, sesame seeds, or other spices to the coating before placing the gyoza in your air fryer.
If you don’t have an extra large air fryer, you may need to reduce the amount of gyoza you place in the air fryer.
How to Store?
You can also freeze your gyoza after they’ve been cooked. Simply place them in a freezer bag and store in the freezer for up to two months. To reheat, remove the gyoza from the freezer and let sit at room temperature for 15 minutes. Then, transfer the gyoza to a microwave-safe dish and heat on high power for 30 seconds.
Dipping Ingredients
This recipe is quick and easy. You just need five ingredients and 10 minutes to make it.

Notes
1. Brush the dough with oil before frying
Oil helps keep the pot stickers from sticking together while cooking. You don’t need much oil; just brush it over the surface of the dough. If you’re using a deep fryer, use vegetable oil. For stovetop cooking, use peanut oil.
2. Use enough water
The amount of water you add depends on how thick you’d like your pot stickers to be. Start with 2 cups of water per batch of dough. Add more water if needed.
3. Make sure the dough is well kneaded
Kneading makes the dough easier to roll out and prevents lumps. To do this, take one piece of dough and fold it into thirds. Then unfold it and repeat the process. Continue folding and unfolding the dough until it becomes smooth.
