Falafel is a popular Middle Eastern dish made from ground chickpeas. There are multiple ways to prepare these tasty balls. It can be baked or fried and is often served with pita bread, vegetables, and tahini sauce.

The key is choosing the right ingredients. We’ve included some of our favorite spices and herbs in this recipe. These include cumin and coriander seeds, red pepper flakes, paprika, turmeric powder, garlic, and salt.

This article will cover everything about falafel air fryer recipes, such as how to make the falafel mixture and how to cook it in an air fryer.Let’s start!

Recipe-1

Ingredients

  • Chickpeas: You will need dried chickpeas (also called garbanzo beans). Canned chickpeas won’t work (see below for more info!). First, soak the dry chickpeas for 24 hours in water. Then, add 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda to the water to help soften them.
  • Fresh herbs: The stems have been cut off of fresh dill, parsley, and cilantro.
  • Onion: I use yellow onions, but white or red also work.
  • Garlic: You’ll need a few cloves of peeled garlic.
  • Spices: Cumin powder, coriander, and a little cayenne pepper (optional, but I recommend it). You don’t need much, so that the falafel won’t be too spicy.
  • Baking powder: You need baking powder if you want your falafel to be light and airy. Your falafel will be hard without it. Don’t miss it!
  • Sesame seeds: You don’t have to add toasted sesame seeds, but they make the dish taste deliciously nutty.

Cooking Directions

Rehydrate chickpeas

Soften 2 cups of dry chickpeas (NOT canned or cooked) in water and baking soda. Drain after 24 hours. (Chickpeas swell in water, so cover them with several inches)

Make Falafel “dough.”

In a food processor with a blade, combine soaked and drained chickpeas, 1 cup fresh parsley leaves, 34 cups fresh cilantro leaves, 12 cups fresh dill, 7 to 8 peeled garlic cloves, one small quartered yellow onion, kosher salt, and spices (1 tablespoon each black pepper, cumin, and coriander; and one teaspoon cayenne pepper). Finely chop. It’s grainy.

Chill

Refrigerate the mixture for the whole night. When refrigerated, the mixture forms patties easily and holds together well.

Make Burgers

Stir baking powder and sesame seeds into the cooled falafel mixture. Form a golf-ball-sized ball and flatten it into a disk. Over-flattening will make them dense.

Fry Falafel

Preheat the air fryer to 400F. Falafel disks should be lightly oiled and placed in the air fryer basket without crowding (the patties need some room, so they crisp up well). Falafel in 5-minute intervals: Check after 5 minutes to see if it’s crisped and colored. If not, don’t flip and cook longer. Then repeat. Asap.

Recipe-2

Ingredients

  • A can of chickpeas, drained, rinsed, and patted dry
  • One-fourth of a medium-sized white onion,
  • chopped 2-tablespoons of chopped fresh parsley
  • 1-and-a-half tablespoons of all-purpose flour
  • 2-and-a-half-milliliters of lemon juice
  • a half teaspoon of dried minced garlic, Ground cumin,
  • 1/2 teaspoon Sprinkle on some paprika,
  • about a quarter teaspoon of a pinch of kosher salt
  • The Fourth and Heart Ghee Spray/is another high-heat cooking spray.

Cooking Directions

Step-1

Wash the chickpeas overnight.Drain them and let them dry for at least 30 minutes.

Step-2

Add the spice to a bowl, and add the chickpeas. It is better to chop them by hand so that you can feel if there are large pieces that should be cut further.

The next step is to puree the chickpeas. You can do this by using your hands because you can control how many chunks remain.

Step-3

Add flour and mix everything well with your hands.Using flour to bind the ingredients together is not essential, but it helps the mixture bind together. If you don’t have flour or breadcrumbs at home, you can use a little bit of cornstarch in its place (1/2 cup of flour = 3 tablespoons of cornstarch).

Step-4

Shape the mixture into balls or patties as desired. This step is optional, but if you want to achieve a falafel texture that’s more similar to restaurant-style falafel, try shaping it into balls or patties using a tablespoon.

To make balls: scoop up some mixture and then use your hands to form it into a ball (or an oblong shape). To create a patty, flatten each ball slightly with the back of your hand or press down on them with the back of your spoon.

If you’re feeling creative, there are additional ways to shape the falafel mixture depending on what type of presentation you prefer:

Flatten Balls Between Two Spoons

Use a fork in one hand and a spatula in another; alternatively, place all ingredients onto parchment paper and roll out with a rolling pin before cutting into desired shapes.

Step-5

Heat the Air Fryer to 350°F for 5 Minutes

Place falafel inside and fry for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.Take out from the air fryer and serve with some tahini sauce (optional)

Recipe-3

If you’re looking for a delicious and easy falafel recipe, we have the perfect one for you. This recipe will take less than 30 minutes to make.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups chickpeas (dried)
  • 1/2 white onion (diced)
  • Two cloves garlic (minced)
  • Two tablespoons of ground cumin
  • One teaspoon of chili powder
  • One teaspoon salt

Cooking Directions

Clean the chickpeas, place them into a food processor with all ingredients except oil, and process until a uniform consistency is achieved.

Remove from food processor and place into a bowl along with oil. Mix with hands until well combined. Shape into balls about an inch in diameter, then flatten slightly on a floured surface until about ¼-inch thick.

Place onto parchment paper lined baking sheet(s).Bake at 425F for 15 minutes or until golden browned on the bottom side, then flip over carefully so as not to break them up while turning over.

If they seem like they want to fall apart while doing this, just let them sit back down flat onto parchment paper lined baking sheet(s) again before continuing cooking another 5-7 minutes or until golden browned on both sides & cooked through inside too (check by slicing open center of each ball).

Serve hot and topped with tahini sauce or hummus.

Making the Tahini Sauce

 Tahini Sauce
  • Save

If you’re familiar with peanut butter, you’ll recognize tahini immediately. It’s so silky and delicious. It’s unbelievable.

To make this sauce, all you need is a bowl and a spoon (or a food processor, if you like). To cut down on the heavy feeling, I mix the tahini with some yogurt and then add some lemon juice.

The only thing to keep in mind is that the sauce will be quite thick if you only use yogurt and tahini. A lot of watering down is required before it can be used as a spread.

For this, I simply use boiling water; you’ll need between a quarter and a half cup to achieve the correct consistency. Spreadable but not runny. That’s how the sauce should be. This can be stored in the refrigerator until it is needed.

A Couple of Important Tips

Make sure your air fryer basket isn’t too crowded. Separate the falafel patties during cooking to achieve the best texture. If necessary, split up your work into batches.

Falafel patties cooked in an air fryer should be checked at 5-minute intervals because air fryers can provide vastly different results.

I preheated the air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and air-fried the patties for 5 minutes, checking them frequently to ensure they were golden and crispy on both sides. You can also check our other recipe for making air fryer sardines.
