Turnip fries are a favorite low carb side dish that you can enjoy with any meal or as an appetizer. They're great with dips and sauces and just as good hot or cold. If you don't have an air fryer, they're also easy enough to make in your oven.

Servings:8

Yield:8 servings

Ingredients

  • One kilo of turnips
  • 1.5 grams of vegetable oil
  • 1/3 cup of freshly grated Parmesan
  • One Tablespoon of Garlic Salt
  • Paprika, one teaspoon
  • Onion powder, one teaspoon's worth

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Set temperature to 425 degrees Fahrenheit (220 degrees C). Grease or line the fryer basket with aluminum foil.

Step 2

Turnips should be peeled and sliced into thin sticks, about a third of an inch by four inches, the size of French fry sticks. Toss with the vegetable oil in a large bowl to coat. Shake a resealable plastic bag containing the grated Parmesan cheese, garlic salt, paprika, and onion powder until well combined. Put the greased turnips in a bag and shake them around so the spices cover them all. Distribute on the sheet tray.

Step 3

Toast in a hot air fryer for about 20 minutes, or until the exterior is crisp and the interior is soft. Start serving right away.

Turnip soup is a traditional Korean dish that’s well-loved in the winter months. Turnips are packed with nutrients, including fiber and vitamin C. They also have high amounts of calcium, magnesium and potassium which are all essential minerals for our bodies to function properly.

  • Prep: 20 mins
  • Cook: 30 mins
  • Total: 50 mins
  • Servings: 8
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

  • 1/2-inch cubes of bacon (one pound)
  • Oil from cooking 1 slice of bacon (around 1 tablespoon)
  • Two cups of diced onion (half-inch size).
  • 1.5 pounds of potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch cubes (2 cups).
  • Turnip, cut into 1/2-inch cubes, enough for 2 cups.
  • Cover with a solution of water and four sprigs of fresh thyme.
  • 1.5 grams of butter
  • Tear 1 cup of kale leaves and set aside
  • a pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste 1 cup of heavy cream

Cooking Instructions

Step 1: Bacon should be cooked in a large saucepan over medium heat for about 4 minutes, or until the fat renders. Once done, take the pan from the heat and drain everything except about 1 tablespoon of the rendered bacon drippings.

Step 2: Place the pan back on the stove over medium heat with the bacon and fat you set aside in Step 1, and cook the onion in the bacon and fat, stirring frequently, for another 4 minutes, or until the onion is transparent. Mix the potato and turnip into the bacon sauce and simmer for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 3: Pour enough water into the saucepan to cover the vegetable mixture; add the thyme; bring to a boil; then reduce heat to medium-low and cook at a brisk simmer for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the potato and turnip are cooked.

Step 4: Soften butter in a little frying pan. The kale leaves only need 2 or 3 minutes of cooking time, during which time you should stir them frequently. Cook for another minute or two over medium heat. Cook for an additional two to three minutes after you've stirred the kale and cream into the soup while it's simmering. Before serving, take off the thyme sprigs.

This recipe are perfect for those who want low carb, healthy air fryer recipes. The key to making turnip tots is to cut the turnips into small pieces so they can be shaped into bite-sized tot shapes. Then you can cook them in your air fryer for 30 minutes at 380F and enjoy.

You can use bacon instead of sausage if you like, but I prefer my low carb air fryer recipes with a meaty filling like this one does. If you have any leftovers, just store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days (or freeze them). There’s no need to add oil or anything else because they come out looking golden brown and delicious after being cooked in the air fryer.

  • Cook: 45 mins
  • Total: 55 mins
  • Servings: 4

  • 2 bunches of chopped turnip greens
