Beef: Definitely, the first thing you’re going to need for this recipe is beef. Look for a tender cut for the best results. You should go for a ribeye, tenderloin or a top round roast. Select the size depending on the capacity of your air fryer.

Air Fryer: The next obvious, Air fryer. You want to have a good quality air fryer to get the best roast. If you’re looking for suggestions to buy one, head over to our best air fryer guide.

Meat Thermometer: A really useful tool. If you’re into cooking meat often, it’s a great little investment to make. I recommend the instant-read digital thermometer.

Spices: I’d suggest using a blend of your favorite spices to coat the beef roast, which will add extra flavor to the dish. Garlic powder, parsley, basil, onion salt, thyme, pepper etc. will do.

Oil: Olive oil is my go-to option to coat the piece of beef before I put the rub-on. It’ll make the rub stick and seep into the piece of beef.

How to Prepare and Season Beef Roast?

Before seasoning, dry the beef well. Only after all the moisture has properly evaporated from the outer surface, the meat will begin to get brown.

This is why, before starting to cook, it is very important to get the beef as dry as possible so that the browning process will begin as soon as possible.

Rosemary and thyme are needed in the following recipe, but you may go ahead and turn to any other herbs you want. You can try oregano, parsley or sage.

Herbs that are fresh or dried will work fine. In the case of using fresh rosemary, before using it, you want to take off the leaves and cut them up very finely.

To bring out the flavor of the beef, Salt is also essential. To evenly cover the piece of beef with seasoning, you need to first mix all the herbs with the salt and oil on a plate and roll the piece of beef in that mixture.

As air frying is quite a quick method of roasting, you want to be picky about what cut you should get. Tougher cuts will require you to roast for a long time to get tender. So, it will be best to choose a more tender cut when we're looking for air frying.

These cuts of beef are expected to yield good results when air fried -

  • Rib-eye roast
  • Sirloin roast
  • Rolled rib roast
  • Tenderloin
  • Tri-tip roast

In general, rump roasts and chuck roasts are better suited to slow roasting as they can be hard and take longer cooking times to become really tender.

You can still air-fry them, but for the best results, they will need to be thinly sliced against the grain.

Ingredients You Need

  • 2 pounds of beef
  • oil for spraying

For Rubbing

  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 2 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon summer savory OR thyme

Instructions

  • First, mix all the rub ingredients with salt and rub into the roast.
  • You want to place the fat side down in the air fryer’s basket
  • Spray with your preferred oil lightly.
  • Set the temperature of the fryer to 400 degrees F and air fry at this setting for 20 minutes straight.
  • Rotate the beef - turn the fat-side up and again spray with oil lightly. Continue frying at this position and 400 degrees F temp for 15 more minutes.
  • Take the roast out of the fryer, tent it with foil paper and let it rest for about 10 to 15 minutes.

The duration mentioned for frying should yield a rare roast - which means the roast should have a temperature of 125 degrees F in its center on a meat thermometer. Fry for added time to get medium-well and well roasts. The duration should be 40- and 45-minutes medium and well roast respectively.

For this recipe, you’re obviously going to need the air fryer and the other requirements are as followings:

  1. Beef chuck roast
  2. Salt and pepper
  3. Soy sauce
  4. Orange juice
  5. Worcestershire sauce
  6. Brown sugar

Marinade First: You have to marinade the beef first, obviously. The process is super simple yet very flavorful. Combine the last four items in the list above (Soy sauce, Orange juice, Worcestershire sauce & Brown sugar).

Take a baking dish or container, place the meat in it and pour the marinade all over it. If you have to take the beef up somewhere, you can use a resealable plastic gallon bag where you place the meat, pour the marinade in and seal it up tight before you put it into the fridge.

You want to marinade overnight to give the meat ample time to soak the flavor.

Start Frying: When you’re done marinating the meat, apply salt and pepper over the roast evenly around it. Place it in the fryer’s basket. Set the fryer and 400 degrees F for 30 minutes and let the fryer do the magic. You’d want to flip the roast halfway through the cooking time, though.
